User Guide: Crafting an Effective Prompt

  • General Rule: A good prompt should consist of 40-60 words incorporating a situation description.
  • Situation Description: Your description should include the following elements:
    • Content: What is the prompt about?
    • Role: Who is involved or what is their function?
    • Context: What is the setting or background information?
    • Constraints: Are there any limitations or requirements?
    • Knowledge/References: What pre-existing knowledge or templates are you drawing from?
    • Tone/Style: What is the desired tone or style of the response?
    • Format: In what format should the response be presented?
  • Remember: The better the situation description, the better the result!

Example of a Good Prompt

You are an editor at a news agency. Write a message about the following text, referring exclusively to the facts from the text. In the message, answer the following questions: WHO did WHAT? To WHOM did it happen? WHEN? WHERE? WHY? Which source? The message should be written in the style of DPA. It should be an online newspaper article. Here is an example-text structure: “Give an exact structure of a Press Release Text”.

Additional Relevant Information

When crafting prompts, whether for AI, assignments, or any other context, clarity is crucial. Your prompt should be concise but detailed enough to guide the response without ambiguity. The clearer the instructions, the more likely you will receive a response that meets your expectations. This is particularly true for interactive AI systems where the input directly affects the output quality. Always consider your audience and the purpose of the prompt to tailor the style and tone accordingly.
