AI Agents: When AI Stops Answering and Starts Working – August Update

Sound familiar? A meeting transcript, an Excel file, a template – and ten manual steps in between before a finished document finally exists. This is exactly where the new AI agents on the 506.ai platform come in: you define a goal, the agent works out the necessary steps on its own, carries them out and delivers the finished result – as a Word document, a PowerPoint presentation or an interactive dashboard.

From conversation partner to digital colleague

Most people know AI as a conversation partner today: you ask a question, get an answer, rephrase it, then copy the result into another program. That saves time when writing and researching – but the actual work around it still lands on your desk.

An AI agent goes one step further. You describe what the end result should look like. The agent figures out how to get there, gathers the documents and data it needs, works through the steps one after another and presents you with a finished result. If it runs into a problem along the way, it adjusts its plan and tries again.

Chat or agent? A simple rule of thumb

A single question or a quick rewrite still belongs in the chat area. As soon as several steps, files or data sources come together and a finished result is expected at the end, the agent area is the right choice.

💬 Typical for the chat area:

  • “Make this email sound friendlier.”
  • “Summarise this text in five bullet points.”
  • “Explain the difference between A and B to me.”

🤖 Typical for the agent area:

  • “Analyse this Excel file and create a dashboard.”
  • “Create a finished set of minutes from my transcript, using my minutes template.”
  • “Translate this document into three languages and keep the layout.”

In short: in the chat area you ask questions and receive answers. In the agent area, an agent pursues a goal and independently carries out several steps to reach it – like a digital colleague working on their own.

Examples from practice

What does that look like in concrete terms? These are tasks that agents on the 506.ai platform already handle today:

  • Legal research in the Austrian Legal Information System (RIS) – for example case law of the Supreme Administrative Court on travel time as working time, or a comparison of building regulations in Upper Austria and Tyrol.
  • Filling in templates automatically – template plus data produces the finished contract.
  • Comparing two documents for differences – structured, instead of line by line.
  • Creating a presentation based on a website – web access plus a finished PowerPoint.
  • An interactive dashboard from an Excel file – as HTML, ready to share.
  • A conversion-optimised landing page – delivered directly as HTML.
  • Translating documents into several languages – including the original formatting.
  • Personnel data from contracts as an Excel list – unstructured becomes structured.
  • Minutes from a meeting transcript – the recording becomes a finished Word document.

In other words: tasks that currently cost anywhere from half an hour to several hours in many companies and public authorities – and that nobody particularly enjoys doing.

Transparent, not a black box

The more an AI does on its own, the more important the question of what exactly it is doing becomes. That is why every step an agent takes stays visible in real time: you can see which documents it draws on, which intermediate steps it takes and how it arrives at its result.

Access is just as clearly defined: an agent works exclusively with the files, data and capabilities you release to it. And like the entire 506.ai platform, it runs in full compliance with the GDPR on European servers – your data stays your data.

Custom skills: tailored to your internal processes

It gets really interesting when an agent knows your company’s processes. Custom skills let you teach agents exactly the capabilities you need: internal review processes, industry-specific analyses, your own document templates or recurring reports. That also includes generating Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HTML files directly in your company’s corporate design – with no manual rework.

These capabilities remain entirely the property of your company and can be adapted or extended at any time. Over time, you build up your own library of digital work steps that mirrors your processes.

More from the August update

  • Redesigned interface: tidier, more modern and more clearly structured – with direct switching between chat and agents.
  • Using files via copy & paste: copy a file, paste it straight into the input field and start working with it – no detour via an upload dialogue.
  • Managing multiple chats at once: delete or move up to 20 chats into folders in a single step.

A new chapter for the 506.ai platform

The August 2026 update is the biggest in the history of the 506.ai platform.

In October 2025 we laid the groundwork with personal assistants: AI helpers that are set up once and are then always on hand with the right expertise. With AI agents we are now taking the next step – from tools that wait for your input to digital team members that pursue a goal independently.

We are looking forward to seeing which of your workflows you hand over to an agent first.
